Spartanburg One is excited to announce the appointment of Mr. Wayne Copeland as the next principal of Mabry Middle School, effective for the 2025–2026 school year. His selection was officially approved by the Board of Trustees during the April meeting.
Mr. Copeland currently serves as Assistant Principal at Mabry Middle School, a position he has held since 2023. With over a decade of experience in education and student services, he brings a rich background in instructional leadership, student support, and community engagement. Prior to joining Spartanburg One, Mr. Copeland was a Business Education teacher and department chair at Dorman Freshman Campus. He also worked in various educational and support roles at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind, the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department, and the Charles Lea Center.
Mr. Copeland earned a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from North Greenville University and holds an Ed.S. in School Leadership from Furman University. He is certified as a secondary school principal and in business, marketing, and computer technology education.
“I am honored and excited to continue serving the students, staff, and families of Mabry Middle in this new role,” said Mr. Copeland. “Together, we will build on the strong foundation already in place to support student success and create an environment where every learner can thrive.”
Mr. Copeland and his wife, Katrina, who is also an educator, have two children: Mya, age 9, and Kingston, age 7.
Mabry Middle School's current principal, Dr. DJ Brown will be the Director of Student Services for Spartanburg One.
