The annual Law Day Essay Contest is sponsored by the Senior Division of the South Carolina Bar Association. The 2022 essay contest was the twelfth year that the Senior Division has sponsored the contest. The purpose of the contest is to promote a better understanding of the Rule of Law and Civic Responsibility in the South Carolina’s youth. The contest is opened to all 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students in South Carolina. In 2021, the contest was named in honor of Circuit Judge J. Mark Hayes, II, in recognition of his work with the contest since its inception. The 2022 American Bar Association Law Day Theme was “Towards a More Perfect Union: The Constitution in Times of Change”. As part of the Law Day essay contest, each student was asked to write a 1000 words or less essay on the topic: “Discuss the role of the Constitution in achieving the goal or outcome of producing a “more perfect union” as expressed in the Preamble.” Congratulations to the following LHS students for their recognition in this contest: 12th Grade Best Essay Writer Jonathan Drake, Essay Title: Exploring a Perfect Union 10th Grade Best Essay Writer Marc Baker, Essay Title: Perfect Union: A Perpetual Improvement

Welcome one of our new Physical Education teachers, Mrs. Amy Bomar. For the past 8 years, Coach Bomar has been coaching volleyball at Wofford College, Presbyterian College, and most recently the head coach at Converse University. Coach Bomar graduated from Charleston Southern University, where she also played volleyball. Following her playing career at CSU, she played professionally in both Finland and Sweden. Coach Bomar will be helping with our Girl's JV Volleyball and Basketball teams. She is the mother to her 1 year old son, Jaylen, and 6 year old daughter, Jaxen.

Welcome our new Social Studies teacher, Ms. Anayeli Guerrero Pulido. Ms. Guerrero was born in Hidalgo, Mexico and she was raised in Inman, South Carolina. She graduated from Chapman High School and earned her BA from USC Upstate. This is her first year teaching and she is excited for the school year. She enjoys reading, traveling and hiking.

Welcome our new Orchestra director, Mr. Paul Hendricks. Mr. Hendricks earned his Bachelor’s of Music in Instrumental Education in 1995 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is in his 28th year teaching music. He began teaching in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teaching Orchestra and Band, then moved to Chase Middle and High Schools (Forest City, N.C.) where he continued as a Band Director. Mr. Hendricks came to District 1 as a Band Director at Mabry Middle and Chapman High Schools. Upon having his own children in 2009, He moved to Landrum Middle and High Schools where he taught Chorus. Five years ago, Mr. Hendricks began teaching Orchestra at Landrum Middle where he fell back in love with teaching instrumental music. He now is back at Landrum High School as the Orchestra Director at both Landrum Middle and Landrum High Schools. Mr. Hendricks has a wife of 23 years Hollie who is the Band Director at RS Middle School in Rutherfordton, 2 sons (Marshall and Zane), 2 dogs, 3 cats, 5 goats and 2 miniature horses all of whom live on their farm in Green Creek.

Welcome one of our new English teachers, Mrs. Sarah Atkins. For the past four years, Mrs. Atkins has been teaching online ESOL classes so that she could be home with her two young sons, Hudson (6) and Cohen (3). Prior to her years at home, Mrs. Atkins taught English at Spartanburg High School for seven years. Mrs. Atkins is a graduate of Broome High School, and she has a BA in Media Communication from the College of Charleston, as well as a Master’s of Education from Southern Wesleyan University. She is married to Cody, and the family resides in Inman.

Welcome our new School Resource Officer, Wayne Craft. SRO Craft is married to Carole-Anne Craft and has a 9 month old baby, Autumn-Melody. SRO Craft is a graduate of Berea High School and continued his education at North Greenville University to study Criminal Justice. SRO Craft was in the Army National Guard for 10 years as a Sergeant in an Infantry Unit. During his service, he was deployed for 1 year and 6 months to Syria, Iraq, and Kuwait. Since then, Craft has worked with the Landrum Police Department for 4 1/2 years.
